Four buildings built between 1905 and 1927 mark the historic town of Cooper Lanng, founded as a trading post on the Kenai River in the 1880s by Joseph Cooper. Although a wave of gold miners populated the town in about 1898, no buildings remain from that period. By about 1905, trappers who also earned their livings as guides and temporary laborers were attracted to this site on the Kenai River.
