Woody Creek (1887, 7,400 feet), begun as a stop on the D&RG, did not become a post office town until 1920. The slab-sided, earthy Woody Creek Tavern, the ancient Woody Creek Schoolhouse, and trailer parks are a reality check for the resort upstream.
