Bedrock (1883, 4,970 feet) is the hub of the Paradox Valley, a remote, arid valley 30 miles long and 3 miles wide, so named because the Dolores River crosses it at right angles rather than flowing through it. Scrawny cattle graze around abandoned uranium mines outside the town, which is noted for its adobe schoolhouse (1900) and quaint general store.
