Palmer Events Center (Lester E. Palmer Auditorium)
The complex includes the renovation and expansion of the city's public entertainment facilities long recognized for the round modern auditorium on the south shore of Lady Bird Lake. The addition differs from the form and modern style of the auditorium to reflect the regional influences of Central Texas, especially the use of local limestone. Adjacent is the Lester E. Palmer Events Center developed as a large tentlike facility to house community events. The auditorium and events center now blend well with the former Austin Lyric Opera (2000, Lake/Flato Architects) across the street at 901 Barton Springs Road. This building was the home of the opera company founded in 1986.
