Schmitz Hotel (Guadalupe Hotel)

In 1852 Rudolph Nauendorf erected the two-story rubble limestone commercial structure known as the Nauendorf and Coll Building with a stepped parapet and a pitched roof fronting New Braunfels's Markt Platz, or public square. It is one of the oldest public buildings extant in the city. Nauendorf sold the building in 1858 to Jacob Schmitz, who converted it into the Guadalupe Hotel and added the double galleries fronting the plaza. In 1873 he added the third floor with a gallery and renamed it the Schmitz Hotel. The building currently contains ground-floor retail spaces and five apartments on the upper two floors.
