Built for his own use by mason J. Gottlieb Lorbeer, also credited with the Gass Blacksmith Shop ( NB30) in Comfort, the one-and-a-half-story limestone house is raised above the creek banks on a high basement. The house is devoid of porches or exterior ornament, the exception being wooden shutters that decorate the plain exterior and provide protection from the sun. A short distance north of the house stands a complex of stone and frame buildings, including the one-story, one-room stuccoed limestone Longbein House and the long rectangular frame dance hall with an asymmetrically placed door and sash windows.
