Opened in 1920, the drug store included a soda fountain. The founder's son, August J. A. Watzlavick, joined the business following his graduation from the University of Texas and then went on to earn a medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In 1950 he opened a family practice office in Schulenburg, where he served the community until 2004. In July 2005, the Texas House of Representatives issued H.R. 362 in his honor. His father continued to operate the pharmacy but moved the business in the 1930s from this building to 535 N. Main Street.
