Like his contemporary Leo M. J. Dielmann, Gaenslen was an active designer of churches, and this is one of his best. The Romanesque character of St. Michael's is rendered in brick and stone, with some handsome brickwork above the arched openings. The pyramidal tops of the twin towers recall the towers of Mission Concepción in San Antonio ( SA84).
