Located on the Rio Grande, Los Saenz is contemporaneous with Roma. As a ranch that serves the south bank community of Mier, Los Saenz best represents the regional vernacular architecture for its collection of one-and two-room, high-parapet, side-gabled cottages executed in either brick or sandstone. A number of these can be found throughout this tiny community, especially along 7th Street near the river, with their still-intact banquetas and well-sculpted cooking chimneys. Of note is a jacal at the corner of 4th and Ebanos streets, one of the few examples of this building type still standing in South Texas.
