Upper Darby and Vicinity

-A A +A

The Delaware County border along Philadelphia's western edge takes on different manifestations depending on the nature of the area. Philadelphia ends in an explosion of row houses stimulated by the early-twentieth-century construction of the Market-Frankford Elevated line; 69th Street in Upper Darby is an important early-twentieth-century commercial node, while to the south the flow of Philadelphia's industrial economy into Yeadon, Colwyn, and Collingdale continues the flood of row houses, small twin houses, Colonial Revival churches, and here and there the farmhouses and estate houses of the old economy.
