Montoursville rests on the north side of the West Branch Susquehanna River. The town was laid out in 1820 and became a borough thirty years later. It was named for Andrew Montour, a métis with Iroquois and French ancestors, who served as an interpreter for Anglo-American forces in the French and Indian War.
