About seven miles north from U.S. 1 on Route 112 is the portion of Carolina that lies in Charlestown. One either side of the road are a church and residences that were related to the mill complex sited on the other side of the river in Richmond. The rural character still evident today along the tree-lined road gives a clear sense of the village environment; the buildings on the right (east) side of Route 112 have been altered more than those on the left (west), which retain their wooden siding and detailing.
