Tehuacana (Limestone County)

-A A +A

This small community is named for the Tawakoni Indians who lived nearby in the early nineteenth century. The Tehuacana Academy opened here in 1852 and residents settled around the natural springs. The population grew to around 500 in 1890 and then the town began to decline. Trinity University, a school supported by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, opened here in 1869 and relocated in 1902 to San Antonio.
