This small community was founded in 1895, and was settled by German immigrants moving from neighboring Cuero. The town's name derives from one of its founders, who was a native of Nordheim, Germany. The brick buildings of the nearly deserted main street and a few modest houses with gingerbread trim hint at a previous prosperity.
