Located on the northern tip of Mustang Island, Port Aransas served as the deepwater port for Corpus Christi before the advent of its ship channel in 1926. The town also emerged as a tourism resort with the coming of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in 1886 to the edge of the Texas mainland.
