Manhattan Hotel

-A A +A
1901. 228 N. F St. (on the Arkansas River) (NR)

At the downtown end of the F Street Bridge (1907, Pueblo Bridge Company) (NR) and Riverside Park, this brick castle for travelers sports heavy stone trim and a stony parapet of pyramidal finials. Ground-floor display windows are divided by iron columns and rough stone pilasters, the latter rising through elaborate ornamental brick-work to peaked finials. Round windows are set in the diapered brick frieze, which turns into a corner tower with a fine view of Haight Pavilion, a small frame observation shelter atop Tenderfoot Hill across the Arkansas.
