Paonia Home and Farm Supply
c. 1900. 1992, renovation, Peter Dobrovolny, 119 Grand Ave.

Ed and Betsy Marston, who moved to Colorado from New York City, took charge in 1958 of one of the best-known countercultural newspapers in the Rockies, a champion of small towns and rural areas. The journal moved into this old feed store, where architect Peter Dobrovolny of Basalt raised the ceiling to create clerestory windows and install high-tech utilities. The new frame false front with a stepped parapet looks as if it might be original.
