Originally five diners were located on this stretch of U.S. 29. The Tastee is the only one that survives in its nearly original high-style Moderne form with porcelain enamel siding, stainless steel prows, glass block, blue and white awnings, and multicolored neon. The exterior red steel and neon sign is original except for the 1973 addition of the word “Tastee.” The interior is nearly intact with blue Naugahyde seats, Formica, tile, and continuous back bar of stainless steel panels in radiating and diamond patterns. The original owner, Delmas T. Glascock, splurged on a gray-veined marble counter (instead of Formica) and a terrazzo floor. The best seats are the corner booths, where the glass block wall is lit by vertical fluorescent tubes.
