The Methodists’ first church built on this site in 1883 was destroyed by a tornado in 1893 that cut a swath across the west side of Cisco. The church’s replacement was outgrown as the oil boom swelled the town’s population. The present tawny brick building designed by Dallas architects showcases a grand central portico with a full entablature and pediment supported by ten Ionic columns, three at each corner and two pairs in between. The columns stand on plinths formed by the water table over the raised basement. A broad flight of steps rises from the sidewalk to the two entrances set within the portico.
