Prairie Oil and Gas Company Houses

-A A +A
1919. 1105 and 1201 S. Seaman St.

Prairie Oil and Gas Company built three houses for company officials and two remain. W. I. Clark, the company’s Eastland superintendent, lived at number 1201. Both houses bear striking similarities to the “modern bungalow” models published in the Sears, Roebuck and Co. Catalog of Houses (1916–1933). At one-and-a-half stories, the high, cross-gable roofs sweep down to a single story over the wide front porches. The partial second floor is revealed in the shed-roof dormers at the front. The house at 1105 has a jerkinhead gable.
