J. B. McDougall House

Flanked on two acres by lawns and towering pecan trees, this house is one of the most exuberant Queen Anne residences in Texas. It was built for banker and civic leader J. B. McDougall. The two-story wooden house’s deep, wraparound porch is supported on stout Tuscan columns and has a pediment-like gable at the entrance. A shallow-depth, false gallery extends across the second floor, terminating in a round balcony at the corner. The balcony’s diminutive size is visually balanced on the facade by an overscaled dormer centrally placed on the roof. The McDougall house was renovated as The Inn of Many Faces bed-and-breakfast in 1998, which closed in 2015.
