Grace Episcopal Church is an example of the Southern church house type: a simple rectangular structure with a front-gabled roof, here built of local red sandstone. The coursing is roughly horizontal, but the stone blocks are not dressed square. In contrast, the arched entrance has well-cut jambs and voussoirs, as do the three paired, round-arched windows on the north wall of the nave.
On the next block, the First Christian Church (1888; 1105 Oatman Street) is also an example of the Southern vernacular church house type built in stone with a steep gabled roof. The granite is laid in a refined, random rectangular pattern. The projecting entrance is topped by a square, frame tower with a tall spire. Additions also used granite facing.
