Zang Brewmaster House

-A A +A
1889, William Quayle. 2345 7th St. (NR)

Zangs, the biggest brewery in the Rockies before Prohibition, no longer exists, but the two-story Queen Anne house of the brewmaster is easily visible from I-25. From a rough red sandstone foundation, the red brick walls with carved red sandstone trim rise to corbeled chimneys. The hipped roof has decorative gabled projections featuring paneled bargeboards and fishscale shingles. The wooden front porch and balcony have turned balusters and posts with carved foliage and grape clusters. Less elaborate by comparison is the nearby worker housing, formerly the Rocky Mountain Hotel and now the Zang Brewing Company Bar and Restaurant (1871; additions), 2301 7th Street (NR).
