Eagle County Justice Center

-A A +A
1985, William C. Muchow and Associates. 885 Chambers Ave.

On the northeast outskirts of town along I70, this raw concrete solar structure was described by Architecture magazine (August 1986) as “a low-slung building with linear massing parallel to the land's contours … remarkable mainly for its peak-roofed, glazed entry before which two free-standing fluted columns stand at sentry duty.” William Muchow, a devout Post-modernist, described the layout as “traditional for a jail” but said he tried to make it “a somewhat happy place” by using skylights for daylight.
