Situated on a rise above the old Jackson Road, this two-story Georgian-plan house is unusually large and grand for Amite County. Its Greek Revival styling incorporates such idiosyncrasies as gallery railings with X-shaped supports and half-glazed double-leaf doors allowing light to flood the center-hall. Two stuccoed brick chimneys decorated with dentils pierce the low hipped roof. W. Z. Lea, whose parents moved to Amite County from North Carolina, grew cotton on this rich land near Love Creek. Nearby, the Liberty (or Amite) Lookout Tower was built to help manage the extensive forests replanted after the decline of cotton in the early twentieth century.
