HAZLEHURST METHODIST CHURCH

1928. 127 Caldwell Dr.

This red brick and cast stone-detailed Tudor Revival church displays a hint of Art Deco in the faceting and stepped-back geometry of the two symmetrical towers. The interior, with curved pews facing a pulpit, follows a modified auditorium plan. Opposite at 130 Caldwell, the Colonial Revival brick U.S. Post Office (1938) built during Louis Simon’s tenure as Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury features a mural, Life in the Mississippi Cotton Belt (1939) by Auriel Bessemer.
