Soaring over an elegant residential neighborhood, this church's octagonal shingleclad belfry culminates in an octagonal spire and nine finials pointing heavenward. The red and buff stone base springs into the tower and other airy turrets and finials. The graceful, irregular plan has been marred by several ground-floor additions. This vertical Queen Anne Style composition contrasts well with the stocky Romanesque Revival red sandstone First Baptist Church (1890) on the opposite corner.
