This three-story brick hotel incorporates an older wooden building that is said to have housed the first town newspaper and schoolhouse. The stone cellar houses the Mine Shaft Bar. In 1991–1992 the Gilpin Hotel was rehabilitated for a casino career. The buildings on either side, neo-Victorian casinos (1992–1993) of brick and stone, draw some inspiration from this venerable hotel.
