Kochevar Saloon

-A A +A
1899, Jacob Kochevar and Son, builders. 127 Elk Ave.

A symmetrical false front with a decorative bracketed cornice hides a deep, front-gabled structure. The three-bay storefront has double doors in the central recessed entry. The upper facade has three tall, double-hung windows with three smaller double-hung windows above spaced closer to each other, creating the illusion of a third story. Underneath the clapboard lie hand-hewn square timbers. Jacob Kochevar, a skilled Croatian carpenter, constructed various houses and businesses in town, as well as the Old City Hall ( GU21), across the street. Both the exterior and the front barroom are well preserved.
