Charles Boettcher, Colorado's greatest industrialist, erected this Tudor Revival country estate built of local granite and pine. The 10,000-square-foot home seems to grow out of its craggy hilltop site, with its profile softened by clipped gables, a shake shingle roof, and stone walls. A carriage house, well house, barn, and gazebo further enhance the 110-acre site. In 1975 the summer lodge reopened as the Jefferson County Outdoor Conference and Nature Center. The Fishers' elevation drawings for this wonderful, understated “cottage” adorn the upstairs meeting rooms. The 110-acre surrounding ponderosa forest offers nature trails and fine views.
