Beautiful, red-haired Genevieve Chandler Phipps, following her sensational divorce from U.S. Senator Lawrence Phipps, asked Maurice Biscoe, a Denver architect, to design this Adirondack-style retreat with the help of craftsman Jock Spence. The 10,000-square-foot main house has walls of lichen-covered rough stone block in random courses. It features skylights, a ballroom, spiral staircases, and diamond-paned leaded glass windows. A 3,013-square-foot guest house and a carriage house, now with an office wing, are among the six outbuildings. The estate, in its prime, had a stable, creamery, and blacksmith's shop on more than 1,200 acres. After stints as Elmer Wilfley's cattle ranch and as Colonel William R. Sandifer's dude ranch, it is again a private estate overlooking Bear Creek.
