This settlement along the Rio Grande, a stagecoach suburb of Creede, swelled to some 600 residents before the 1893 silver crash sank the community. In 1905 a group of Kansans bought the abandoned site for summer residences. These flatlanders restored two hand-hewn log cabins with double porches, the two-story log Coinage Hotel, and the jail with its original bars.
