This large adobe house behind a willow windbreak began as the small store and rear living quarters of pioneer Luis Montoya, a successful sheep rancher. With the addition of a large dance hall, now the living room, and separate living quarters for residents and visitors, the house became a social club. The rambling, multigable roof reveals the gradual expansion of the building, which also encloses a well and a former courtyard. A glazed sun porch has been added to the west wall, and a potato cellar east of the house has been converted to an earth-sheltered dwelling.
