1895. Southeast corner of Jefferson St. and 1st Ave.
This tiny, single-story building of rough-faced pink rhyolite could have housed a modest collection and a librarian of small proportions. The entry of its glazed storefront is centered under an etched glass transom. An elegant cornice tops the west facade. In 1987 the Monte Vista Historical Society made this its headquarters. Next door to the south is a newer library building (1904, John J. Huddart), a single-story, red brick box atop a raised full basement, a typical Carnegie design in Beaux-Arts Neoclassical dress.
