Mansion Antiques (Sylvester House)

-A A +A
Sylvester House
1913. 1030 Park Ave.

This large house, built by rancher L. D. Sylvester. is a classic Craftsman design from its ribbon of attic shed dormer windows to the massive front porch braces. Yellow, orange, red, and brown glazed brick is trimmed with local sandstone in unusual triangular insets and T shapes under the windows and at the base of the wooden roof braces. Wide eaves with exposed rafters, half timbering, and stained glass windows in geometric designs further adorn the house. The interior retains its dark ceiling beams, beveled glass, built-in wooden furniture, and a Van Briggle tile fireplace. A matching carriage house echoes the materials, style, and shallow roofline of the dwelling, which now contains an antiques gallery.
