Andrew Christensen, head of the AEC's Land and Industrial Department, originally occupied this house. In charge of the disposition of the public lands, Christensen was known for his glowing oratory, which apparently spurred buyers to bid more than they had intended at the public auctions. The one-story, hip-roofed cottage had exposed rafter ends at the eaves and a gabled porch.
