Western State College

1911. Between Colorado St., Georgia Ave., and Escalante Dr.

Founded as the Colorado State Normal School, WSC took its current name in 1923 when it was promoted to a liberal arts college. This state school has a steady enrollment of around 2,500 on a campus on the northeast side of Gunnison. The Clarence T. Hurst Science Hall (1962) houses the Hurst Museum, with exhibits, artifacts, and data on the college and the town.
