This prominent school set on spacious grounds in the unincorporated community north of the Arkansas River closed in 1985. Although rather plain in style, the red brck building, two stories on a raised concrete basement, is distinguished by banded peach and buff brick and stone trim beneath the overhanging eaves of a low hipped roof. Boys and girls have separate entrances. Next door to the east is the original frame school, now the Fort Bent–North La Junta Community Building.
