Composed of a pair of conventional Savannah elevated side-hall town houses and rear carriage houses, this building reflects the area’s transformation into a commercial zone and the remarkable adaptability of traditional residential forms. Around 1913 the yard space between the main houses and carriage houses was filled and the raised basement and elevated parlor level above it were converted into a dramatically tall commercial space with a mezzanine wrapping around the perimeter of the interior (reflected in the smaller row of windows above the main display windows). The upper-story windows retain their residential spacing and proportions. RK Construction and Development restored the building in 2006.
