  • House (David Gebhard and Gerald Mansheim)

The designer of this Queen Anne-style house focused his interest on the housetop. At the center, a steeply pitched gable roof ascends almost three floors. Beneath this gable, at a lower level to the front, is a central gable, and then a pair of gables at a 45-degree angle to each corner of the building. Each of the many gables is treated with a variety of patterns. At the very front, in the center, is a small entrance porch with a shed roof and, of course, its own small gable over the steps leading onto the porch. The house represents an effective essay in the play of volumes, roof forms, and linear surface ornament.
