Gude House

  • Gude House (David Gebhard and Gerald Mansheim)

Here we encounter as pure an example of the Mission Revival as could be found in Southern California. The front porch has a row of three arches facing the street; its parapeted gable end contains a false window in the form of an elongated quatre-foil, and there are similar windows (some containing vents) elsewhere in the house. The walls of the dwelling are roughcast stucco, and the red tile roof has eaves supported by Craftsmanlike beams and struts. Though a later date has been suggested for the house (1932), it is much more likely that it was built c. 1910.
