John W. Beaumont (class of 1882) and his wife, Alice, donated the funds to erect this Collegiate Gothic memorial, which stands on the site of College Hall (1857–1919). The exterior relief, The Sower, is a stylized Art Deco panel carved by Fred Pfeiffer and Son, on the basis of a design by Lee Lawrie, an outstanding sculptor of the day.
