River Center Mall

-A A +A
1986, Urban Design Group. 849 E. Commerce St.

The city's effort at commercial revitalization of the area around the Alamo grafts the new mall onto the back of the former Joske's Department Store ( SA4). The best approach into the mall is on the south through an extension of the Riverwalk, entering a vast open plaza surrounded by the tall glass walls of the mall buildings and the stepped terraces, a truly startling sight. Unfortunately, the interior does not measure up to the excitement of the water approach, a generic mall filled with national chain stores.
