Aurora Apartments

-A A +A
1930, Richard van der Stratten and Herff and Jones. 509 Howard St.

Soaring above Crockett Park, which serves as its front yard, the nine-story high-rise apartment building, including a two-story setback penthouse, was the second of its type to be built in San Antonio; the seven-story Bushnell Apartments ( SA104) preceded it. At Aurora, flamboyant Gothic ornamentation on the cornice expresses the building's height and the cast-concrete Moderne balcony rails give it a more dramatic character than its predecessor.
