Iraan County Park

-A A +A
1965. U.S. 190 at Alley Oop Ln.

Writer and cartoonist V. T. (Vincent Trout) Hamlin created the once enormously popular comic strip Alley Oop in 1932 after having lived in Iraan during the oil boom. In 1965, the city dedicated a park in honor of Hamlin’s creations. It features a two-dimensional bust of the wise caveman, Alley Oop, with his top hat and cigar, and a charming concrete version of Alley Oop’s dinosaur friend, Dinny, which visitors are invited to climb on. Also in the park are a re-created oil well and a jogging track.
