The Arts and Crafts details of this house indicate that Stern had been looking at Stickley's Craftsman Homes (1909) or other similar publications. This and several other houses on the avenue designed by Stern evidence his adroitness in different idioms (see also the Shepard and Moon houses, also on Washington Avenue).
