Media General Building

-A A +A
1998, Burrell Saunders. 333 E. Franklin St.

This first phase of an envisioned corporate complex for Media General/Richmond Newspapers Inc. is a decidedly late-1990s twist on the popular Richmond stylistic scheme of melding classicism with modernism. Here, a semi-engaged portico of heroic columns on the second story is sheathed in aluminum. A modernist canopy (probably inspired by the much more refined Library of Virginia) announces the entry.
