Barn

-A A +A
North of Sarvis Fork Bridge, west side of Jackson County 21
  • (West Virginia Collection within the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division)
  • Barn (S. Allen Chambers, Jr.)

This gambrel-roofed barn displays a well-preserved example of a painted advertisement that used to grace countless barns throughout West Virginia. Touting a once familiar product of Wheeling's Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company, its yellow letters on a black background urge passersby: “Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco. Treat Yourself to the Best.”
