Developed by Maui Land and Pineapple on its pineapple lands at Honolua, Kapalua resort was initially conceived in 1964, but did not break ground until 1975. Today the resort includes a variety of residential units and three golf courses, and is in the midst of developing a new resort center, having demolished the sophisticated Kapalua Bay Hotel (1978) designed by Edward Killingsworth.
