Kalorama Road and Circle (
SK33–
SK41) form the northern boundary of this district, which follows a high ridge of land before it descends to Rock Creek Park, a particularly desirable residential area that was developed primarily in the 1920s. Many of the homes were speculative ventures by a series of developers and builder-architects. Whelan's exploded Georgian Revival house, although constructed in coursed rubble stone, suggests southern American Georgian prototypes due to its hip roof and very fine swan's neck pedimented doorway.
